Jaigarh Fort :- Jaipur’s Impregnable Military Fortress and Symbol of Victory

​Detailed History

Located on the ‘Cheel ka Teela‘ (Hill of Eagles) in the Aravalli range of Jaipur, Jaigarh Fort was built by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1726 AD. The primary purpose of this fort was to protect the Amer Fort, which is why a secret tunnel connects the two. Known as the ‘Victory Fort‘, Jaigarh has never been conquered in its entire history. It was not only a military cantonment but also housed a massive cannon foundry during the Mughal and Rajput eras. The fort gained significant attention during the Emergency (1975-77) when an extensive search was conducted for hidden treasure.

• Jaivana Cannon :– This is the star attraction of the fort. It is considered the world’s largest cannon on wheels, which was fired only once for testing purposes.
• Diwa Burj :– The highest point of the fort, offering a panoramic view of the entire Jaipur city and Amer Fort.
• Water Harvesting System :– The fort features massive underground water tanks. The largest of these has the capacity to store 6 million gallons of water.
• Vijay Garhi and Armoury :– There is an extensive armoury displaying ancient swords, shields, and muskets used in battles.
