The region of Gautam Buddha Nagar has been historically and culturally significant since ancient times. In the Vedic period, this area was part of the ‘Kuru Kingdom’. According to local beliefs and ancient history, before becoming ‘NOIDA’ (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority) and Greater Noida, a major part of this region was known by the names of ancient towns like ‘Dankaur’ and ‘Kasna’. During the Mahabharata era, Dankaur was renowned as the ashram of Guru Dronacharya and the place of penance for Ekalavya. Additionally, parts of this region were historically counted under Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad districts, often referred to as ‘Satta’ or ‘Pargana Dankaur‘. In the year 1997, it was carved out as an independent district by combining parts of Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr, and was named ‘Gautam Buddha Nagar’ in honor of Mahatma Buddha.
