Following a heated altercation over a perceived insult, Amar Singh fearlessly assassinated Salavat Khan, the brother-in-law of Shah Jahan, right in the crowded court.
When the Mughal guards instantly surrounded him, Amar Singh Rathore mounted his loyal horse and leaped off the high fortifications of the fort. He fought valiantly and achieved martyrdom near this very gateway. To honor his unparalleled bravery, indomitable spirit, and sacrifice, the gateway was later renamed the ‘Amar Singh Gate’.
