Detailed History
Kumbhalgarh Fort is situated atop the Aravalli hills in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. It was built in the 15th century (1443–1458) by the legendary ruler of Mewar, Maharana Kumbha. This fort is one of the few in Mewar that could never be conquered on the battlefield. It is also the birthplace of the great Rajput warrior Maharana Pratap, making it historically significant. During times of crisis, the royal family of Mewar always took refuge in this fort. UNESCO has designated it a World Heritage Site.

Exterior Architecture :– The most prominent feature of this fort is its 36-kilometer-long wall, which is considered the second-longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. The wall is so wide that eight horses can run abreast on it. There are seven massive gateways for entry, with ‘Aret Pol‘ and ‘Hanuman Pol‘ being the major ones.
Interior Architecture :– The interior of the fort is a masterpiece of architectural style
- Badal Mahal :– Located at the highest point of the fort, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Aravalli hills. It is decorated with pastel colors and beautiful frescoes.
- Katargarh :– Known as the “fort within a fort,” this was the private residence of Maharana Kumbha.
- Temples :– There are over 360 temples within the fort complex, of which 300 are ancient Jain temples and the rest are Hindu temples. The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is the most magnificent among them.

- Visiting Time :– 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A Light and Sound Show is held in the evening (6:45 PM).
