Shakti Sthal (meaning “Place of Power” or “Place of Strength“) is the memorial of India’s first and only female Prime Minister, the ‘Iron Lady‘ Smt. Indira Gandhi. On October 31, 1984, she was assassinated by her own bodyguards at her official residence. Following this tragic event, her final rites were performed at this serene site along the banks of the Yamuna River, close to Raj Ghat and Shantivan.
