The Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, situated beautifully on the banks of the Yamuna River in New Delhi, is a magnificent modern cultural, historical, and spiritual complex. Detailed Architecture :-
The architecture of the Akshardham Temple is crafted in strict accordance with the principles and rules of ancient Indian Shilpa Shastras, Maharishi Vastu Shastra, and classical temple craftsmanship. The most remarkable engineering feature of this grand monument is that no concrete, cement, or iron-steel rods (reinforcements) were used in its entire construction; it is built entirely from interlocking pieces of Rajasthani pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble.
The main monument stands 141 feet high, 316 feet wide, and 356 feet long, featuring 234 intricately carved pillars, 9 magnificent domes, and more than 20,000 beautifully sculpted figures of deities, saints, and sages. The main sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagriha) of the temple is breathtakingly divine, housing an 11-foot-tall golden-plated idol of Bhagwan Swaminarayan at its center. The lower base of the temple features the ‘Gajendra Pith’, which boasts exquisite carvings of 148 life-sized elephants in various poses, depicting the profound and sacred significance of elephants in Indian history, mythology, and nature.

- Ticket :– Entry into the temple complex and offering prayers at the main temple are completely free of charge for all visitors. However, to witness the three specialized exhibitions (Sahajanand Darshan, Neelkanth Darshan – IMAX film, and Sanskruti Darshan – Boat Ride) and the grand ‘Sahaj Anand’ multimedia water and light show after sunset, visitors must purchase separate tickets from the designated ticket counters inside the premises by paying the prescribed fee.
- Visiting Time :– The visiting hours for tourists and devotees are from 10:00 AM to 06:30 PM (Exhibition tickets are available until 6:00 PM). Please note that the entire complex remains completely closed on Mondays.
- How to Reach :– The most convenient, fast, and comfortable way to reach Akshardham is via the Delhi Metro. You can travel on the Blue Line and alight at the ‘Akshardham Metro Station’, from where the main entrance of the temple is just a short walking distance (approx. 5 minutes).
