Detailed History
Located in the Jhalawar district, Gagron Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was built around the 7th to 8th century by the Dod King Bijaldev. The fort is known for its strategic location as it is surrounded by the waters of the Ahu and Kalisindh rivers on three sides. Historically, the fort is famous for its valor and two major ‘Jauhars‘. Its most illustrious ruler was Achaldas Khichi, who fought bravely against Sultan Hoshang Shah of Mandu. The fort has also been a center of communal harmony due to the presence of the Dargah of Sufi Saint Mitthe Shah.
