Located in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary (Surha Tal) was established in 1991. Spanning over 34.32 sq km, this natural lake is named after the prominent freedom fighter Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan and is famous for hosting thousands of migratory birds in winters.

It is a massive natural oxbow lake. Its exterior layout is adorned with lush green fields and walking pathways equipped with watchtowers for tourists. The interior architecture comprises shallow wetlands, aquatic flora, and lotuses, making it a sustainable habitat and feeding ground for birds.
